Hey everyone, IT'S A ...
Hello all,
First let me apologize for being late on this, the newest and probably most important blog for us. It has been a grueling month and some-odd days for Lisa an me but, here we go.
We finally went to the ultrasound appointment that said it might be able to give us the gender of our baby. We entered into the medical facility( by the way, this facility was being attacked by swarms of wasps) and we were very pleased to happen upon a bucket full of iced down water bottles. We hoped that they were for us because we each took one and proceeded to the radiology department.
We walked up to the counter and with a few swipes of a card we were sitting in the waiting room. It took about 10 minutes for the nurse to come and call for us. Actually she called for Lisa. She said that I would have to wait about 10 minutes while they did some stuff. I am not sure what they did, but it must have been very important, top secret "Female" stuff.
Finally, the door opened and the nurse said"Okay, Daddy". I followed here into the ultrasound room where Lisa was already on the table and "gelled up". The nurse, who by the way was great, asked us if we wanted to know the gender of our baby. Funny, both of us really wanted to know but, when the nurse asked us we both hesitated, briefly, and then said "Yes".
She started by showing us an arm, then the head, tummy, feet and legs. She does these checks for the doctor to evaluate later. They check for things like a cleft palate, correct diaphragm position and things like that. She finally got to the important stuff and there it was!! She said, "You're having a BOY!!
Yes, tears came to my eyes. She continued to explain other things but, I really didn't hear much after she said "Boy". So many thoughts went rushing through my head like will I be a good dad, will I be able to teach him right from wrong, Oh man, I have to learn a sport!
Lisa, the girls and I are so excited about having a boy. Well, Sammie isn't that thrilled. She really wanted a little sister. I think that she'll be okay, though.
The name we picked is Dylan Jacob. No reason except that we liked the name and no one in either family had the name. The pictures that are in this blog are just some of the pictures that the nurse took. We decided against putting the "money shot"in for discretionary reasons. (come visit and we will show you all of them). The nurse typed in the comment. She noticed that Dylans hands were both up over his head. The thick tube-like thing coming out of his tummy is his umbilical cord. I like the second picture, He is saying "I'm number one" referring of course to the fact that he is going to be the only boy in the family. Hey, wait, what about me. Okay one of two.
We are now registering at Target, Babys"R"us and Wal-mart. Lisa is having a great time except that she is so used to having girls that she looks at all of the "girlie" stuff. I have to remind her that butterflies and flowers are off limits for our baby.
I hope this updates everyone on how we are doing. We are planning our next appointment around the 24-26 week period. we are going to get some 3-D images. That will be exciting. I will definitely put those pictures in the next blog. Until then, be safe and well. We love you all.
God Bless,
Richard
